Textiles with sunblocking protection, an equestrian waistcoat with an integrated airbag protection system, or a heated bicycle courier vest with a navigation system – digital technologies and fashion grow ever closer together, and today’s sports, leisure and medicine can no longer be imagined without “smart clothes”; that is, intelligent pieces of apparel with integrated electronic components. With the adidas_1, the “first intelligent shoe”, the cushioning system is controlled by a sensor and a magnet which automatically adjust the cushioning via an enginedriven cable system while the user is running in them.

The packaging complements the shoe in a well thought-out manner: it reflects the shoe’s nature in terms of design and technology by surprising in the shape of a multidimensional “wing-design box” with interesting details and distinguishing itself through a reduced and elegant aesthetic. When the box is opened via the two self-locking spread wing panels, the shoes fold out elegantly on both sides of the box, conveying the quality of their dynamics immediately. Additional innovative features such as a transportation clamp system, a smart fixation device for multiple shoe sizes and a removable tool box compartment with integrated handle further illustrate the aspect of intelligent technology.

Due to its innovative technology the Micropacer sports shoe took a pioneer position already in the 1980s. The packaging for the limited edition has a foil cover with mirror effect and is foldable after removal of the sleeve. The shoes are embedded in a foam cushion. That way, the retro model should remain a must-have item for sneaker maniacs of any age 20 years after it came on the market.
