Kimono Doll

red dot award: communication design 2008 : packaging

The project started with the question why no perfume packaging is as beautiful and extraordinary as the perfume scent. The aim was to have the customers reach out for the perfume flask before having smelt the scent, only attracted by the packaging design. The packaging is intended to depict the silhouette of a Japanese woman. It was therefore designed in the shape of a kimono that seems to be wrapped around a marionette. The kimono pattern and the plan for the accurately fitting of the packaging have been designed according to the flask size so that it perfectly fits the bottle. The kimono is wrapped around the bottle and finally fixed by an obi, a broad sash, to the waist-like centre.
